Comprehensive Parent Screenings
Our health standards include testing for both parents — the sire and the dam, not just a puppy’s checkup. These five screening categories are included in the Lagotto Romagnolo Club of America’s CHIC guidance. Refer to that guidance for current timing and qualification requirements.
OFA or PennHIP Hips
Thorough evaluation of hip joint structure and dysplasia screening.
Eye Exam (CAER)
Eye examination by a board-certified veterinary ophthalmologist, OFA registered.
OFA Patella Evaluation
Veterinary assessment of kneecap stability to monitor for luxating patellas.
BFJE DNA Test
Genetic screening for Benign Familial Juvenile Epilepsy, an inherited condition causing juvenile seizures.
LSD DNA Test
Genetic testing for Lagotto Storage Disease, a severe inherited neurological disorder.
Understanding CHIC & Health Records
A CHIC number means the required screenings were completed and the results made public. It does not mean every result was normal or guarantee future health.
Ask to review the individual reports for both parents, including the date of each eye exam. Match their registered names or registration numbers with the Orthopedic Foundation for Animals (OFA) database.
A Thoughtful Approach to Puppy Vaccinations
We take a careful, selective approach to the vaccinations we give each puppy, with their health and well-being in mind.
Please ask us about your puppy’s vaccination history and records. Review these with your veterinarian to plan the vaccinations and ongoing care your puppy needs.
