Our Story

Our story began with a truffle hunt in the Italian countryside. In April 2019, our travels brought us to Canale Monterano in Lazio, near Lake Bracciano. We came for an experience of Italy. We left with a love for the Lagotto Romagnolo. We met Uzzi, the white Lagotto, and Julietta, the dark Lagotto. Along country paths and beneath the trees, we watched them follow a world we could not see. Their noses led the way; their partnership with the people beside them made the search just as memorable as the discovery. Seeing a truffle lifted from the earth and holding it in a palm made this Italian tradition wonderfully tangible. The experience continued around a table: truffle shavings over risotto, conversation, and time with the dogs. What stayed with us was not only their ability to work. It was the affection and connection we felt in their company. A dog that could be so intent on a scent could also settle beside us and welcome a little attention. Our photographs hold the wider memories of that journey, too: blue Italian waters, coastal views, and meals shared together. But it was the truffle hunt—and the Lagotti we met there—that inspired us to learn more about the breed and eventually welcome Lagotti into our own family. Today, Pronto Lagotto is our way of sharing that connection with families in Charlotte, NC and beyond. We value the breed's intelligence, its working heritage, and the companionship that first drew us in. We want each prospective family to discover not just a beautiful dog, but whether life with a Lagotto is the right fit for them.
