Meet the Lagotto Romagnolo, one of the best kept secret of the dog world!
Lagottos are one of the rarest breeds in the world and well known for their retrieval skills. The name Lagotto Romagnolo literally means "Lake dog from Romagna" and were notorious for retrieving water fowl for their owners during a hunt. They have exceptional swimming abilities and a sensitive nose which is now used for finding one of the most expensive "mushrooms" in the world, the truffle.
Truffles come as either white or black. Truffles are the edible spores that grow on an underground fungus in the family Tuberaceae. They're often confused with mushrooms, but they're technically not the same species — mushrooms grow above ground, while truffles grow underneath the surface. Truffles are extremely hard to source and lose their potency quickly once they've been harvested. These factors make them one of the most expensive foods in the world. Depending on the variety (Italian white truffles are generally the priciest), they can sell for as much as $4,000 a pound.
The Lagotto's traditional function was as a gun dog, specifically a water retriever; since the drainage of large areas of wetland habitat in its area of origin of Italy, it is now more often used to hunt for truffles. It has been known since the 16th century, but did not become widespread until the 19th.
This protected breed is typically confused with the Portuguese water dog, labradoodle dog, and even golden doodles. Though similar, nothing can replace the opulence and elegance of a Lagotto Romagnolo.
They are still used to hunt for truffles all over Italy, Europe, and in the Northern region of the United States. They are also a great companion which does not shed, is hypoallergenic, easy to train, and non-aggressive kid-friendly breed. Consider Lagotto Puppies we have available.

Ever since we took a trip to Italy where we went truffle hunting in the hills near Lago di Bracciano, I fell in love with these dogs. They are super friendly, hypoallergenic, don't shed, and very intelligent. I started to do my research to see if they would do well around my home filled corgi puppies with children. I was convinced that I wanted a Lagotto and hence I purchased a puppy or three. Next I wanted to share the same joy with the world. I then became a breeder and continue to bring this secret into the United States as many still do not know about this wonderful breed. We plan on also breedign french bulldog puppies
